Australia holds the key to a large percentage of the global resources. The Olympic Dam deposit in South Australia (which BHP acquired when it took over Western Mining) is the world’s largest known uranium deposit, containing more than 30% of the world’s known uranium reserves. There are only two other operating mines in Australia – the Ranger mine in the Northern Territory (will be exhausted in 2008), and the Beverley mine in South Australia. There is a fourth mine approved for construction in South Australia. Most of the listed 'Uranium' stocks have deposits or exploration licences in states where Uranium mining is banned. They have the potential of rallying on the possibility that the Federal and State governments will both authorise uranium mining. Other countries that have Uranium deposits include; Canada, Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana, and Spain (last active mine closed in 2000). Following is a list of listed companies that have uranium interests, either; in production (in Australia or overseas), have existing deposits, in exploration or just pure dreaming!
